Drop

Drop

After being introduced by his sister to Drum n Bass in 99, Drop let go of his rock and grunge musical roots and quickly grabbed hold of the new sounds coming out of the UK on legendary labels such as Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware. Still in fifth form at the time he began saving for turntables and taught himself how to mix, while making his way out to see DJs like Grooverider and Bailey whenever they graced our shores.

He moved to Dunedin for university in 2002, and after many a house party and trying his hand around town at various open decks nights, in late 2003 he began a monthly slot at Arc cafe, promoting under the name Cashmere Drumz (a name shared with his longtime mix partner DJ Roman in Christchurch). Much the same time he began what turned into a two and a half year fortnightly residency at Toast cocktail bar playing the lighter side of Drum n Bass.

His sets at Arc cafe saw him get combined with another pair of rising upstarts, the Urban Terror Unit, who he later joined up with in late 2005 to bring the 'Urban Assault' series of events to Bath St.

With a rising profile around the country, Drop has supported Roni Size and Dynamite and Shapeshifter at Refuel, spread the Dunedin love around the South Island, and featured twice at Phat 07.

Now he is resident at the pure liquid drum n bass night Fluid at Bath St, as well as his own Here Come The Drumz nights.
